Not surprisingly, Cleopatra had been much disliked in a city that had got rid of its kings, for she’d insisted on being addressed as ‘queen’.

The pageantry worked. “The moment he saw her, Antony lost his head to her like a young man,” he Greek historian Appian wrote. Cleopatra was not done – throwing extravagant parties and dinners for the Romans, flaunting her riches by giving away all the furniture, jewels and hangings from the soirees.
The actual story of CLEOPATRA VII: DAUGHTER OF THE NILE (EGYPT, 57 BC): Cleopatra and her inept pharaoh father (a Ptolemy) flee risk of assassination in Egypt to Rome, where the plan is to get Rome to please help them stay in power and not die (the latter of which is, of course, not a strong possibility if they don't stay in power).
” She had just the energy to offer a parting shot. With a tartness that would have made her mistress proud, she managed, “It is indeed most fine, and befitting the descendant of so many kings,” before collapsing in a heap, at her queen’s side.
It needs to look good to stand out against other slots which follow the ancient Egyptian theme. There are hundreds of them, many dedicated to the same queen.
One is that the history aspect is practically nonexistent. Many individuals like the Roman figures such as Julius Caesar and Marc Antony are either mentioned or make a certain appearance. So when her father is exiled to Rome due to conflicts at home, Cleopatra follows him. There, she’ll be tested on what it means to be a leader.
Her story is one that has been retold throughout history – full of romance and love, riches and betrayal. But beneath the gold and glamour Cleopatra's Diary lies a far darker tale of sibling rivalry taken to the extreme, and a thirst for power that would change the course of history.
Concerning this specific diary, I did find the characterization very bland. But the details and the events of the story seemed to make up for it well enough to keep it at four stars, because after all, I did pick this up for the historical aspects, and not the characters.

Unlike Dear America, which consisted of diaries of young girls living during pivotal periods in American history, The Royal Diaries is a series that features women of royalty from all over the world.
Another thing that I noticed while reading this with a more adult lens is the fact that this little Cleopatra is a bit of a narcissist. Now, having a healthy amount of confidence in oneself is a good thing. However, little Cleopatra here thinks she’s the best thing since the invention of fire.
